Europe's First "Battery Production Days" Conference Successfully Held, Building a New Chapter for European Battery Industry Competitiveness

In October 2025, the inaugural European "Battery Production Days" conference was successfully convened in Münster, Germany. Jointly organized by RWTH Aachen University's Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives (PEM), the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Battery Cell Production (FFB), and Campus Forum, the event brought together over 200 professionals from industry, research institutions, and policy-making sectors to discuss critical pathways for establishing a competitive battery production system in Europe.

Conference Focuses on Full Value Chain Innovation

The conference featured in-depth discussions covering the entire battery manufacturing value chain, with key topics including:

  • Innovations in battery manufacturing processes

  • Digitalization and quality assurance systems

  • Smart factory planning

  • Battery testing standards and methodologies

  • Research and development of new battery technologies

Experts unanimously agreed that enhancing the competitiveness of Europe's battery industry requires collaborative efforts across the industrial chain. Professor Achim Kampker, Director of PEM at RWTH Aachen University and FFB, stated: "By integrating forces from research institutions, industry, and equipment engineering, we are fully capable of establishing resilient battery production lines in Europe."

Building a Sustainable Industrial Ecosystem

During the conference, participants visited the "FFB PreFab" digital production environment at the Fraunhofer FFB Institute. This innovative platform provides unique opportunities for industry and research institutions to test, validate, and develop new processes and equipment under real production conditions.

Dr. Sarah Michaelis, Head of the Battery Production Department at the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA), emphasized: "Europe possesses the expertise and core technologies covering the entire battery manufacturing process in the field of mechanical and equipment engineering. What we currently need are customer orders and policy support to ensure the formation of a competitive value chain."

Future Outlook

The "Battery Production Days" conference is planned to be held annually, alternating between Münster and Aachen. The next conference has been scheduled for October 20-21, 2026, in Aachen, where it will continue in-depth discussions on key issues such as battery production digitalization and sustainable development, providing an important platform for promoting technological innovation and industrial upgrading in Europe's battery industry.

As an important participant in the global battery industry, we will continue to monitor and actively engage in the development of the European and global battery industry, working with partners to advance the progress and application of clean energy technologies.
