Recently, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) and South Korea's LG Chem officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly dedicate efforts to the research, development, and industrialization of key sodium-ion battery materials. This cross-border collaboration marks a significant step forward in the commercialization process of sodium-ion battery technology.

According to the agreement, both parties will integrate their respective superior resources in chemical materials and battery technology, focusing on developing:

Sodium-ion batteries, with their abundant raw material resources, significant cost advantages, and high safety characteristics, are becoming an important complement to lithium-ion batteries. According to market forecasts cited by LG Chem, the sodium-ion battery market is expected to expand rapidly at an average annual growth rate of 45%, reaching a scale of 292 GWh by 2034.
